Virtual missionaries?

Some might question the validity of "virtual missionaries". But when there are so few to cover so many, having someone serve as a virtual strategy coordinator for an unreached people group makes sense. After all a virtual missionary committed to the task is better than nobody doing anything at all! After viewing this CommissionStories.com segment, see if you don't agree. Could God be leading you to serve in this capacity with us here in South America? If so, get in contact with us via email in our profile. You might be just the person God is calling to serve Him overseas from your home in the USA, or wherever in the world you might be reading!

What an interesting concept! I had only heard of missionaries like this for certain places in the Middle East where it's extremely dangerous for missionaries to go. I guess I would be worried that people would use an opportunity like this to assuage their guilt over not actually going to a foreign country, but you're right that it's better than nothing. Also, I know many people have valid reasons for not actually going out on the mission field, and it's great that they can now be more involved.

Cahleen,

If we take Jesus' words literally in Matt.28:18-20, all of us should be active participants in the Great Commission. I can envision that this could take many forms. About two years ago, it dawned on me that I WAS RESPONSIBLE before God to go, make disciples, baptize, and teach. Even though I was a "missionary" was I really doing what Christ had commanded? This began a process still going on today of implementing in my life changes to align myself to be more obedient to be not only a missionary in my Jerusalem, but in my Judea, Samaria, and ends of the earth.

I can envision that being a virtual missionary can indeed be a way for some people to reach out to their Judea, Samaria, and ends of the earth.

Guy,

Great video! This is what our church is attempting to do among multiple people groups. We develop a core team for each focus people group (virtual strategy coordinator = core team leader for us). This team is responsible for developing the strategy and leading others to implement various roles in the strategy. All the various parts of the strategy work together moving toward cpm for God's glory among the focus people group.

Different roles of those involved in a missionary strategy include: short-term volunteer, missional community volunteer (advocate from this end), core team member, field intern, and field missionary. Of course we work alongside field missionary liaisons, field partners and indigenous workers.

This type of missionary strategy allows for anyone to get personally involved with obeying the Great Commission. If you don't mind, I think I will link to your article and this video on my blog.

Thanks for pointing this out!
